FUCHSITE CHERT (AKA DRAGON STONE) FUN FACTS

Updated: Aug 8

Here at Crystal D’Lites we currently can’t get enough  of Australian Dragon Stone (Fuchsite Chert).

Fuchsite Chert, also commonly referred to as “Dragon Stone" is a cryptocrystalline quartz stone metamorphosed from fuchsite.

Dragon Stone is formed when a fuchsite vein is subjected to intense pressure and dissolution from super hot ground waters, which partially dissolve the fuchsite into a silica solution, forming large boulders.  Much of the material retains fuchsite’s  emerald green colouring, but can also be found in lighter shades of green.

The Dragon Stone here at Crystal D’Lites has been mined directly by our supplier and was collected from Abydos, which is located not far from Port Headland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Keep your eyes on our Facebook Live Shows and our website over the coming weeks for some amazing examples of this beautiful stone.  😊

Extra fun Facts

Fuchsite is also known as chrome mica and is a chromium rich variety of the mineral muscovite.

Fuchsite is the most common inclusion in Green Adventurine, which is a mixture of Quartz and Fuchsite.  The Fuchsite is what gives Green Aventurine its sparkle or what is known as “adventurecence”.
